Despite the global economic slowdown,China ranks itself among the three biggest military spenders in the world. Indeed, the Chinese Government has undertaken few years ago a structural and highly expensive modernisation of its Armed Forces and military equipment in order to increase its force projection capacities, not only for counter-piracy and overseas humanitarian missions, but also to protect its maritime interests. In this perspective, most of Chinese new military procurements will be comprised of multi-role utility platforms and C4ISR capabilities. This significant shift toward digitalised warfare is called by China "the Informationization phase".
