On November 30, 2006 Alcatel and Lucent announced the completion of their "merger of equals". Starting on December 1, 2006 the combined entity known as Alcatel-Lucent (ALC) began operations. This merger combined two of the largest telecommunications network equipment manufacturers and continued the consolidation trend in the telecommunications industry.
