Description

South African electricity is becoming an expensive commodity, which supports the business case for introducing energy-efficient commercial properties through the design and construction of green buildings and the implementation of energy efficient equipment in both residential and commercial settings. However, the initial cost of energy efficiency equipment can be high, and this can put off end users who cannot clearly see a short to medium term payback period as a result of energy savings. Perception of higher initial cost has hindered the implementation of key technologies in some retrofit situations.
