As companies become more digital, they become more vulnerable. Organizations are pushed to create a holistic security strategy that entails that all devices, processes, and multiple IT environments protect the most strategic asset – the data. The number and the complexity of threats targeting data are on the rise. Threats in the Brazilian market are becoming much more advanced. Hackers know that many companies are not prepared to deal with such attacks, so they find a greenfield in the region for financial crimes, industrial espionage, and data theft. The most advanced attacks are advanced persistent threats (APTs), which produce a coordinated and targeted attack that uses a polymorphic malware file to penetrate the desired network or machine.

The good thing is that the mindset about security is gradually changing in Brazil, although many companies tend to be more reactive rather than proactive—invest in security only after being attacked. Security is becoming an important issue for companies, which now allocate a separate budget for the same. The product combination of anti-virus, anti-spam, and content firewall does not offer sufficient protection as advanced attacks are now a reality in the Brazilian market. Companies are under pressure to implement advanced solutions to block advanced attacks.

Traditional anti-virus is still an important part of network security, and it provides effective protection against non-target malware. However, it is only a single component and should not be treated as a complete security strategy. Hence, companies require endpoint security solutions.

The endpoint security market is mature. It generated a revenue of $65.2 million in 2016 and is expected to reach $84.6 million in 2021, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.3%. It is a commoditized market, so providers must develop a strong roadmap over the next few years to combat price erosion and to offer value for clients in an environment where companies are still changing their mindset about security.

The network firewall market is reaching maturity. It generated a revenue of $182.4 million in 2016 and is likely to reach $328.2 million in 2021, at a CAGR of 12.5%. The firewall has undergone multiple changes to maintain a base level of security efficacy in the face of rapidly evolving threats. Unified threat management (UTM) and next-generation firewall (NGFW) are 2 terms used to describe modern network firewalls that offer a wide range of multi-functional security capabilities.
