This Study highlights the importance of country-specific factors on the automotive industry in Japan over a period of ten years from 1996 to 2006. Trends of political, business policy and macroeconomic factors for the Japanese economy are analyzed and their impact is assessed on the key parameters of the automotive industry and its major segments, to plot the progression index of the industry from 1996 to 2006. Impact of country specific factors on the key industry parameters is captured using growth determinants for the industry that reflect the movement of the key industry parameters based on macroeconomic movements.
