Electricity supply within sub-Saharan Africa has become a significant problem in the region due to drastically growing demand and the need for a reliable electricity supply mix to mitigate the negative effects of drought in a region largely powered by hydro-electricity. Development of the region power pools represents an opportunity to ensure a secure supply of electricity, stimulate generation build programs, attract foreign investment and develop trade structures and mechanisms to facilitate future trade deals between member countries.
