The Brazilian wind power market has experienced tremendous growth during the last few years as a consequence of increasing government concerns about the need to diversify the national generation base and assure energy security and independence. However, despite all incentives, the Brazilian market still plays a secondary role compared to the global market. In 2010, the Brazilian market reached 831 MW of installed capacity, which represents less than 0.5 percent of the global market. Looking ahead, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38.6 percent from 2011 until 2016, the Brazilian wind power market will reach 7,782 MW of cumulative installed capacity.
