The European energy-efficient lighting (EEL) market is growing, primarily driven by EU legislation that is mandating the phase out of inefficient lighting technologies. CFLs is the major product segment; however, LED lighting is gaining market share as well. Although LED lighting is a niche market, it is expected to gain mainstream acceptance as LED prices fall. The residential application segment remains the largest consumer of lighting sources. Germany and the United Kingdom are expected to lead growth over the forecast period. Other major markets like Spain and Italy will demonstrate slower growth given their economic conditions.
