Asia Pacific represents a major source of demand for commercial aircraft over the next two decades. Yet these same markets currently meet only a small portion of the industry’s sourcing needs. But the ground situation is changing and APAC is increasingly well positioned to supply western aerospace OEMs. In spite of the low cost manufacturing base in Asia-Pacific, which is driving the aerospace manufacturers to shift their operation here, several distinctive attributes have caused the global players to limit their involvement in the emerging markets. The complexity of the industry’s technology, its extraordinary high regulatory, quality and safety requirements and low manufacturing volumes has slowed the growth slightly.
