In the Asia Pacific region, the increased activities surrounding broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum allocation during 2005 and 2006 have brought about the resurgence of WiMAX. The low broadband subscriber penetration and tele-density in the region are major motivators of WiMAX deployment. Compared to Europe and North America, the Asia Pacific region is expected to be a more suitable test bed of WiMAX, given the lack of telecommunications infrastructure, low broadband penetration, and geographically widespread population. Nevertheless, the right positioning of WiMAX would determine its fate; either a complimentary or complementary over existing technologies.
