Historically, the CDN industry has been dominated by 3 or 4 market leaders with many smaller sized vendors participating to varying degrees. The CDN market experienced a tumultuous shake-up from 2005-2007 with a number of M&As, for reasons such as business expansion, technology acquisition and product increase. But the real change in the competitive landscape is the arrival of Telcos. Until now the CDN market has not been big enough for Telcos but in the last 2 years the market has seen new entries in the form of larger international telecom operators. The battle between pure players and Telcos has just begun. This study looks at the market drivers, challenges and the changing competitive landscape of the European CDN market.
