Description

This study’s research objective was to gauge the usage of building technologies (BT) within U.S. retail chains with at least five stores. Data was collected in August 2011 using Web-based survey, which sampled 182 U.S. managers. Retailers were familiar with all BT the survey contained, but technologies most commonly employed included fire suppression and detection systems, HVAC and energy management systems, and remote monitoring systems. Energy efficiency proved important to retailers, as most already implemented measures. Budgets for BT generally either increased or remained steady from 2010 to 2011.
