Description
This study is about control of the air battle space (ABS), an area of the battlefield that is simply defined as being from head height upwards. As the ABS cannot be physically occupied by any forces, it can only be dominated (during war fighting operations) or secured and policed (during peace time). The physical inability to occupy the ABS results in the use of a high number of platforms (aircraft) to perform a variety of different tasks such as air defence, strike, and reconnaissance.
