Description

The Asia-Pacific software defined networking (SDN) market generated a revenue of $2,651.1 million in 2013. Hardware vendors such as Cisco, Huawei, and Alcatel-Lucent have a strong legacy of market penetration ensuring a strong infrastructure base for SDN providers that served as the first step for achieving sales in large-scale data centers. This has bolstered revenue generation from SDN products; however, the technology will take a few years to mature and eventually gain traction. The fast adoption of SDN by service providers has been an important driver in the Asia-Pacific market. The initial strategy employed to drive product adoption was creating hype; however, it failed to convince buyers who adopted a cautious approach. Subsequent endorsement by large service providers such as NTT Communications and KDDI (Japan), China Mobile and China Unicom (China), and Telstra (Australia) among other tier 1 carriers created awareness and trust among slower adopters. This has changed the perception of SDN from a conceptual to an implementation ready technology.
