Description
Rising electricity demand in Central and Eastern Europe has exceeded the capacity of grids resulting in energy loses and outages. Grid modernisation is limited in the CEE region and energy losses are high especially in countries such as Bulgaria, Estonia and Romania. Utilities are looking at how to manage the grid properly and reduce to electricity consumption among end-users through new generation meters. The smart meter market in CEE is an upcoming market and is relatively small in comparison to Western Europe. The number of installed metering points is very limited. However, implementing regional regulations on replacing conventional meters into smart units will significantly boost the CEE market around 2012.
