Description
The South African electricity industry is currently in a state of high activity as a result of the challenges facing the industry in the medium term. Generation capacity is rapidly being depleted with a serious risk of load shedding before the end of 2012. As a result, serious attention should be given to the industry with a specific focus on planning and legislative changes to enable private investment into energy in South Africa. Government has recently developed a 20 year electricity plan for South Africa (IRP 2010) and this research service takes a critical look at this document and practicality of changing the energy mix and competitive landscape in South Africa within the context of global warming and globalisation.
