Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) offers an attractive alternative to managing desktops spread throughout business locations. However, unified communications (UC) applications that rely on real-time communications have stood as a barrier in VDI environments. This strategic analysis defines VDI and the challenges that face UC applications in operating within the VDI environment. Furthermore, this study identifies the new approaches being taken by virtualization and UC vendors to resolve these issues. Finally, the study offers recommendations for enterprise to improve the success of deploying UC-integrated VDI environments.
