Description

Since the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) came into effect on 31 December 2015, the region has been on track to create a single market and production base that will allow free flow of goods, services, and skilled labor. With a population of more than 600 million people, ASEAN's potential consumer market is larger than the United States or the European Union. As the combined GDP is estimated at $2.46 trillion in 2015, the potential for logistics industries in Malaysia and Thailand to link to mainland Southeast Asian countries, especially China and India, is enormous. This research provides insights into how regional AEC developments, key drivers, and restraints will impact the logistics industries in Malaysia and Thailand. It also provides implications for the AEC, and the new opportunities that are expected to transform the logistics landscapes of these countries.
