Intracranial aneurysm (IA) is the enlargement of the arterial wall inside the skull that causes massive discomfort and can eventually rupture, leading to paralysis and fatality. Flow diverters, are intravascular divert pressure from a weakened wall of a blood vessel to provide long-term occlusion of the aneurysm and restore the vessel’s natural course. Studies on existing flow diverters in the market provide mixed opinions on their performance in terms of clinician satisfaction and outcomes. The Frost & Sullivan white paper reviews the successes and challenges, identifying key unmet market needs that drive future investments in research and development. This study looks at device construction; the material choice between stainless steel, cobalt chromium and nickel titanium, the technology, coating, and structural design all influence the properties of flow diverters and resultant patient outcomes in such of a balance between different desired characteristics across selected countries such as Europe, India, the U.S., and South East Asia over the last 3 years.
