This Research Service analyses the current (2011) South African municipal solid waste to energy landscape. Major metropolitan municipalities (eThekwini Municipality, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, City of Cape Town and Mangaung Municipality) were interviewed. Views were obtained regarding the status quo, relevant drivers and restraints, strategy and way forward in the municipal solid waste to energy landscape. Mega Trends are included in this Research Service, compiled by senior Frost & Sullivan consultants. The impact of these Mega Trends on the municipal waste to energy landscape is fundamental to the planning objectives of not only the public sector, but also private sector players.
