In this SPIE, we will broaden our “rivals versus allies” analysis to include other product types that also assist in reducing data loss exposure, principally at the edge; notably, secure USB flash drives and portable workspaces (also known as PC on a stick). For additional analysis on portable workspace, see “Go Portable and Be Secure” (SPIE 2009-37), October 9, 2009; and “Portable Workspaces Hit the Market” (BCS 4-3), February 5, 2010. Important in this “at the edge” analysis is not just product effectiveness but also the market acceptance of these products in light of work behaviors and IT trends—notably device independence and information leverage.
