Description

The Mozambican electricity demand is set to grow rapidly. This is due to large natural gas finds and the exportation of coal in 2012. Mozambique's GDP is expected to grow at close to 8.0 percent till 2017. Transmission and distribution infrastructure is the greatest restraint in the electricity industry and a new 'Transmission Backbone' is needed that connects the Cahora Bassa dam in the north with the Mozambican capital, Maputo, in the south. This project is currently in the pipeline and is expected to be completed near the end of the decade.
