Performance contracting (PC) in India emerged with the steering efforts of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - Energy Conservation and Commercialization (ECO) program. Presently ECO III is on active mode. The PC market in the India is in the nascent stage. Subsidized electricity made available to agriculture segment on one hand and increasing energy efficiency (EE) activities on industries (building and process EE) and commercial building segment on the other hand creates a energy efficiency promotion activity imbalance, and hence the PC market in India. Buoyed by the widening supply-demand gap, more number of ESCOs are considering offering PC services as an attractive business proposition.
