Description

Intensive care units (ICUs) are primarily for managing patients with acute or lifethreatening disease or conditions. The critical care provided in the ICUs depends upon the resource availability such as skilled personnel and reliable advanced therapeutic and monitoring equipments. Hence, ICUs contribute to a significant amount of spending despite being a small proportion of hospital beds. On an average, ICU spending ranges from aproximately 10% to more than 25% of hospital expenditures in certain cases.

The need to reduce the healthcare spending has increased the emphasis on cost-effective care in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The rising aging population will increase the demand for critical care services such as ICUs and hence hospitals are focusing on understanding the patterns and variations in significant ICU factors such as length of stay and ICU bed utilization rate. As ICUs contribute to significant amount of healthcare spending, understanding the factors contributing to the ICU spending becomes critical.

This Frost & Sullivan research service on Comparative analysis of ICU infrastructure at Global level assess how ICUs in certain countries perform in terms of length of stay and bed utilization rate at global level. This report also analyses the length of stay in cardiac and neonatal & pediatric ICUs at country level. The report tracks the other important factor contributing to the ICU spending, bed utilization rate at country level.
