Description
So far the ultimate option available to patients suffering from chronic spine related problems, such as, low-back pain, has been “welding” together the adjacent vertebral bodies through a process called spine fusion. Although the spine fusion is the current gold standard for spine care, it has several drawbacks. It disrupts the biomechanics of the spine and promotes degeneration of adjacent discs. Fusion restricts the motion of the spine units. Patients after fusion also may have to undergo several months of rehabilitation. A new generation of devices that will enable “non-fusion” treatment of the spine is evolving. These devices aim to restore the natural biomechanics and motion of the spine.
