At the CTIA conference in April 2006, Disney announced the launch of its new Disney Mobile wireless service. Disney is creating a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) business targeted at families and, more specifically, children between the ages of 8-14 whose parents want the safety and convenience of a cell phone with ultimate control over content and usage. Disney Mobile is capitalizing on its premier brand, not just by offering content, but by becoming a wireless service provider.
