Dubbed as the next big thing in the automotive industry, adaptive steering solutions failed to live up to the hype generated in the early part of this millennium. Launched in 2003, BMW’s adaptive steering solution was supposed to be a game changer. With subsequent launches by other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), namely with rear wheel steering (RWS) and all-wheel steering (AWS), the market failed to gain sufficient traction. However, since late 2015 and early 2016, adaptive steering solutions are making a comeback of sorts. OEMs such as Renault and Honda, to name a few, have re-entered the adaptive steering market with adaptive rear wheel steering. Other manufacturers such as Audi, Cadillac CT6, Porsche, and Ferrari have started offering some form of adaptive rear-wheel steering. Ford started to roll out adaptive front steering in some of its top-selling models across Europe and North America. Despite the recent positivity in the adaptive steering market, a few challenges still exist. One of the major challenges of the adaptive steering market is the fact that at least 2 of the 3 types of adaptive steering solutions will cease to exist in future due to developments in steer-by-wire and the impending roll out of level 4 autonomous driving, which keeps the driver out of the loop. This research service explores the future of the adaptive steering market as the industry migrates from a traditional manually driven vehicles to semi-autonomous vehicles and eventually autonomous vehicles with the driver out of the loop.

The objectives of the study are as follows:
•     Determine the market for adaptive steering and factors affecting the market.
•     Determine the take-up rates of different types of adaptive steering by vehicle segment.
•     Identify new technological trends in the industry which will impact the future of adaptive steering market.
•     Determine the level of consumer awareness, preferences, and consumer willingness to pay for adaptive steering solutions across various vehicle segments and key countries.

Some of the key questions this report will try to answer:
•     How is the adaptive steering market expected to grow?
•     How are the take-up rates of different types of adaptive steering expected to change in 2025 from 2017?
•     Which vehicle segments will lead the growth of the adaptive steering market and which type of adaptive steering these segments will be using?
•     What are the industry best practices adopted by key adaptive steering suppliers?
•     What are the consumer awareness levels for adaptive steering solution?

The study covers North American and European regions, with the base year being 2017 and forecasts up to 2025.
