Over the past couple of years there has been immense perplexity and hype surrounding WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), with some vendors even fallaciously proclaiming in providing a WiMAX product. As of today (July 2005), only a “pre-WiMAX” solution exists with most vendors now undergoing the WiMAX Forum Certification testing at Cetecom labs in Spain for the fixed wireless broadband standard i.e. the 802.16d. As of today neither a fixed or mobile certified WiMAX product exists and this research service will focus on how the delays in certification of a command standard entangled with the various technical and spectrum challenges would curtail the rollout of WiMAX in Europe.
