Description

The seas around the world are becoming increasingly dangerous as territorial disputes, contingency support operations, and piracy spark a renewed interest in advancing current and future radar capabilities. According to the International Maritime Bureau, which is part of the International Chamber of Commerce, more than 205 pirate raids in the Gulf of Guinea have been recorded over the past 11 years. The possibility of conflict in the South China Sea has also been brewing as China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines have competing territorial and jurisdictional claims over rights to exploit the region's reserves of oil and gas. In the Red Sea, missiles were fired at the USS Mason, which was able to deploy timely defensive measures. As nations reflect these and other events, steps are being taken to enhance detection capabilities through better radar systems. This research provides an overview of the global shipborne radar market, defined as the different types of radar systems used on military naval surface vessels. Sonar or any radar systems used on subsurface vessel are not included. Spending forecasts are discussed by region: Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and North America (excluding Mexico, which is grouped with Latin America. The research does not include countries where the market is not addressable (e.g., China, North Korea, and Russia).
