This report discusses why automation of design and assign functionality is essential for many new service provider priorities, including fast service deployment, cost reduction, and customer self-care in support of new services like VoD, IP business services, and IPTV. Included in this report are the results of interviews with service providers, that were asked to discuss design and assign functionality, including best practices to look for in a winning solution and the business benefits of following those best practices. This report also explores the opportunities and challenges to automating design and assign.
