The U.S. Government has mandated that all federal network backbones transition from IPv4 to IPv6 by mid June 2008. But given the lack of products and services that target date coud be hard for agencies to meet. Agencies do not have the IT staff versed in IPv4, many IPv6 standards are still in the development process, and security integrated in the protocol stack does not work with the widely deployed NAT technology.
