The diesel engine filters aftermarket in Mexico is experiencing growth that is driven by a revamp in the United States and domestic economy. It is characterized by growth in the GDP, mining, construction, and transport industries. Old bus and truck fleets in Mexico drive the filters aftermarket growth mainly for locally manufactured products, while premium brands capture market share due to the sales of new bus and truck units. Because of increasing competition from domestic Mexican companies and low-cost Asian imports, Tier I companies are redesigning new market strategies that are aimed at maintaining their market shares. Extended warranties are a key market strategy and are tied to official technical services obligations, mining and construction company stakeholders, and training programs for third party mechanics, drivers, and transport. Donaldson, Fleetguard (Cummins Filtration), Caterpillar, and Baldwin dominate the filters market, while the Mexican company Gonher is the most important nationally owned company with good growth perspectives. Imported low cost parts, mainly from Asia, are threatening the Mexican diesel engine filters market due to price wars and low quality. Moreover, many cloned parts are imported from Asian nations and are labeled with Tier I company brands, which are also affecting brand reputations. In order to fight this challenge, the Mexican Filter Manufacturers Association (AMFFI), together with its associates, is developing media and marketing campaigns to alert consumers about this issue and inform users about the dangers of using low-cost cloned parts to the diesel engine lifecycle. Although the filter market is at mature stage, the main market participants are currently investing in R&D activities in order to develop cutting-edge technologies, to differentiate from Tier II and Tier III companies, and to adapt to the new technological developments of diesel engines. This research service provides segmentation and forecasts of market size, channel analysis, company profiles, market shares, several breakdowns, drivers and restraints, and key trends.

Diesel Engine Filters Market Drivers
Growing domestic GDP from 2016 translates into growth in transportation needs and sales of MCV and HDT as more goods and services are demanded. Growing GDP also impacts on domestic use of buses for city transport and medium and long distance travels
The growth or revamp of the US economy impulses exports of goods manufactured in Mexico since US is Mexico´s main trade partner. This translates in more mileage utilization of MCV and HDT and therefore more services and filters change needs
Growth of construction indexes and investments from 2016 to 2019 boosts demand for filters for off road equipment
Lack of ultra low Sulphur diesel fuel in Mexico or low quality diesel fuel leads to more need of services and filters changes for diesel engines in Transport an Off Road equipment
Entry into force of SEMARNAT Norm 044-2015 would increase emission limits for MCV and HDT diesel engines new vehicles and empower filters market in the future
Entrance of old trucks from the United States due to NAFTA regulations that permit the entrance of trucks with no age limit will drive the aftermarket of filters for diesel engines. From 2019 onwards, trucks of any age will be able to enter to Mexico from the United States
The average age of a national MCV and HDT truck fleet is 17 years old, while for buses 10 (federal service) to 15 years old (urban service). This encourages repair service demand and the need of more often filter replacement. As a rule of thumb, new engines and technologies require less maintenance
Diesel Engine Filters Market Restraints
New extended warranties offered by OEM´s that oblige fleet owners to perform services and filter changes at official OED facilities cannibalize WD (independent aftermarket distributors—IAM) services and filter change market
New Tax/Fiscal Reform by President Peña Nieto affected sales since clients invested less in construction and services and informal sales of filters from small size companies that are not registered and do not invoice sales affect sales of formal businesses and distributors
Mexican Peso devaluation against dollar affects the market due to filters imports for mining and construction off-highway vehicles
Lower Mining investment and activity due to lowering metal international prices an new fiscal/tax reform that includes new royalties payments by mining companies affect investments and mining activity and therefore services and filter changes
There is low construction investment until 2016 due to lower public spending. Two important private construction firms went out of business. The sector is expected to recover after Q4 2016
The entrance of low cost/lower quality filters from Asia hinder market for local manufacturers, however, they are not expected to become strong competitors in the short and medium terms due to AMFFI lobby and consciousness awareness campaigns
