In order to address the security posture of electric utility companies, the North American Regulatory Commission (NERC) has created the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Cyber Security standards. The standards are far reaching and cover a wide variety of cyber security areas including policies, configuration management, log aggregation, and others. As many utilities work to adjust to these standards, it is becoming apparent that Security Event Correlation (SEC) solutions have the maturity and capabilities to allow electric utilities to address the many challenges included in the NERC standards.
