For large electric utilities in the U.S., the waiting and watching time is over for AMR. Whereas 23 large electric utilities opted to install a wide-scale AMR system from 1995 through 2002, there are currently 12 more large electric utilities actively seeking an AMR solution for the smaller customers. Frost and Sullivan has forecast through 2012 the number of AMR units installed by these large electric utilities, and the number of meters, the expenditure per meter,and the cost of meter reading.
