North American Broadband Tracker: Third Quarter 2014

 

The total number of North American residential broadband subscribers grew by 330,000 in 3Q 2014, to a total of nearly 104.7 million. Compared to 3Q 2013, total subscriber numbers increased by 3.9% in the US, and by 3.5% in Canada.

In 3Q 2014, North American providers of prepaid and postpaid residential wireless services added subscribers and revenues. The total number of subscribers approached 355 million, and revenues topped $63 billion.

North American Broadband Tracker: Fourth Quarter 2014

 

In 4Q 2014, North American broadband service providers added 679,000 residential subscriptions; raising the total by 3.9% from 4Q 2013, to nearly 105.8 million. In Canada, DSL continues to grow, with providers adding 77,000 subscriptions in the quarter. Cable providers added 48,000, FTTX added 2,000, and satellite providers added 1,000.

In 2014, the North American market for residential video (TV) services showed slight revenue gains ($4.16 million) and slight subscriber losses (122,000). In Canada, IPTV providers also gained subscribers and revenues in 2014. Satellite revenues were up and cable revenues were down, with both types of providers losing subscribers.

Among the three types of providers offering primary line voice services in North America, only the cable companies increased their net number of subscribers in 2014. Telcos and VoIP service providers lost subscribers and market share.
