Challenges due to the water-energy nexus are of great importance, considering the indispensable nature of water and energy. The impact of water-energy challenges has increased due to factors such as climate change, population growth and lifestyle changes. Certain regions are especially more at risk due to factors such as geography, limited freshwater sources and demographics. For this research report, four regions -- USA, Middle East, India, and China – have been identified for a region-wise analysis of water-energy challenges. A snapshot of technologies addressing water-energy challenges has been presented along with stakeholder analysis, examples of technology convergence and innovations in the industry, a region-wise opportunity evaluation for technology adoption, and a technology roadmap up to and beyond 2020.
