Smart grid development in Australia kick started in 2010. It was led by the government- mandated and funded smart meter rollout in Victoria. Nevertheless, parallel cost-benefit analyses carried out by other power distribution utilities, challenges encountered during the rollout in Victoria, and budget restraints have driven utilities to explore alternative smart grid strategies. This research service provides an overview of the technological preferences, vendour preferences, and budget analyses of most distribution utilities that have smart grid development plans. The base year for this research service is 2012, with a forecast period of 2013 to 2016.
