The U.S. consumer broadband competitive landscape is dominated by the cable multiple system operators (MSOs). These providers accounted for 10.8 million subscribers at year-end 2002, a nearly 70% market share of all broadband subscribers in the U.S. A number of factors have helped MSOs continue to maintain their lead over rival DSL providers. These include greater product availability, lower prices, and faster provisioning. Over the next 12 months, cable modem providers will continue to focus on product packaging (i.e., bundling with other services) and pricing. During this period, a number of cable modem providers will rollout tiered services in order to expand market penetration.
