Imaging informatics did grab its fair share of attention and footprint on the HIMSS 2015 showfloor. This is attributable to the field’s ongoing focus shift away from departmental solutions, to enterprise solutions: vendor neutral archives, enterprise viewers, image sharing and enterprise workflow orchestrators. These products areas are not, however, where the HIMSS 2015 messaging and the Imaging 3.0 concept have the highest convergence. HIMSS2015’s ‘big themes’ – interoperability, patient engagement, population health – actually have the most sensible implications on Imaging in matters that directly affect patient safety and care outcomes – and dose management in medical imaging is certainly one of those.
