Urbanization in India has been growing at a rapid pace and the water and wastewater treatment infrastructure is in a very dismal state currently. The short supply of water in major Indian cities is deepening year-on-year and little has been done to tackle the situation. The Government of India has set up a mission called 'Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission' (JNNURM) to assist municipalities with the much needed funds in developing the infrastructure and support the growing demand. This spurt in growth is expected to increase the opportunities in mega cities in India.
