Wireless Control Networks i.e. use of wireless technology for control applications is a very niche area for automation. Some of the key challenges faced by the wireless control technology are: lack of industry confidence, lack of a common standard and the latency issues associated with wireless control. Optimistically, Wireless control networks will be in the mainstream for adoption by the end of this decade with chemical industries being the primary implementation industry. It is recommended that the industry and the universities align their research and development towards improvement of the security and reliability of their wireless control networks.
