Fiber optic sensing solutions utilize the light medium as the physical source to detect variations in temperature, acoustics, strain, and vibrational parameters. Fiber optic sensing uses an optical fiber cable as the sensor device to create a continuous point of sensing along the fiber cable. This method of sensing is known as distributed fiber opt...

The sensor industry is booming rapidly and in the semiconductor sector it is considered one of the emerging segments. With both diagnostic and preventive features, sensors switch from being smart to becoming highly intelligent. Most sensors will be predictive in order to prevent mishaps and avoid correction of the course. Sensors are garnering smar...

Level 4 autonomous vehicles or self driving vehicles have a high level of automation in which the vehicle can perform all driving tasks and monitor the driver’s environment. The vehicle can operate without the driver’s inputs or oversight under certain conditions, such as type of road or geographic area. Level 5 autonomous vehicles have full autom...

Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles that are finding application opportunities in various industries and have the potential to transform military as well as consumer applications. Drones essentially combine various sensing and communication technologies along with remote control or autonomous capabilities. Drones were initially developed for milita...

The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is witnessing large-scale realization with the growing importance of smart home devices and the increasing consumer demand for automation in order to enable convenient living as well as reduced consumption of energy. Connected living is gaining prominence owing to the various benefits associated with it, mainly its abil...

The Internet of Things (IoT) is witnessing a large-scale realization with the growing importance of sensor technologies in healthcare and the increasing consumer demand for non-invasive and continuous monitoring of health parameters. Connected networks are enabling ease of diagnosis in healthcare thereby creating a shift from reactive treatments to...

Marine systems are ocean and subsea monitoring and exploration systems deployed for a wide range of underwater missions and applications. It is accomplished by acquiring data of certain oceanographic parameters, such as biotic and abiotic forms of substances (foreign substances) that exist in the ocean bed. This real time information is sent to the...

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is concerned with continuous monitoring of civil and industrial buildings or structures in order to improve human safety and decrease maintenance costs. The SHM scheme provides data about changes induced by aging products, environmental action, or accidental occurrences in a single portion or in the entire structu...

Smart sensors transform conventional industrial machines into connected ones via Internet. Connected industrial machines integrated with smart sensors are smart electronic devices, which can be remotely retrieved, observed, and measured using personal computers, laptops and smartphones. In the food manufacturing process, sensors are built for detec...
