Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) is the field concerned with measurement and modification of the noise and vibration characteristics in vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment among others. This research focuses on the test equipment required to measure these noise and vibration characteristics accurately. Harshness is a historical misnomer. As it is not an objective quantity and there is no standard definition for it, every NVH engineer has an independent understanding of harshness.
