APIs have been, and are, fundamental in the digital transformation journey of most organizations. They serve as connections between different applications, enabling them to communicate and exchange data. Nonetheless, without adopting best cybersecurity practices they also introduce severe challenges that drive the emergence of a robust API security market. As they become increasingly widespread, the associated risks rise as well. APIs increase the attack surface across the whole technology stack of the organizations that rely on them, expanding the possibilities of a breach. If risks associated with APIs are not properly addressed, the growth in adoption of cloud applications could be impacted and every API must be considered as a potential vulnerability point and treated as such.
