Insights for CISOs: The Transition to Quantum-Safe

The emergence of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) reflects a significant problem: powerful quantum computers may soon compromise the cryptographic algorithms underpinning today’s digital economy, threatening the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data and communications. Addressing this risk is far more complex than simply replacing vulnerable algorithms. Enterprises often have limited visibility into where and how they use cryptography, as responsibilities are fragmented across the organization. Moreover, cryptographic policies often lack the governance and oversight needed to manage these risks effectively at scale.

As a result, organizations should view quantum readiness not merely as a technical migration project, but as an ongoing management and governance challenge. They need to establish ownership, allocate resources, and develop a sustained approach to managing their cryptographic posture. While PQC migration remains critical, it sits alongside broader cryptographic hygiene and lifecycle management. Quantum readiness is best understood as an ongoing organizational capability that evolves with advances in technology, cryptographic assets, and emerging quantum threats.
