Description

Growing demand for food safety in developed and developing nations has urged farmers to adopt recommended practices in the use of crop protection chemicals (pesticides). Consumer awareness on the residual effects of pesticides on food products has risen over the past decade. Search for alternatives and implementation of best practices has become priority and has entailed better efficiency in increasing agricultural income offering better yield and quality products.

In this edition of the Agriculture & Nutrition Opportunity Engine Series, growth opportunities crop protection (pesticides) market are explored in detail with emphasis on key growth factors by regional markets, market trends, technologies, product innovations and competitive landscape
The study is segmented into different Crop Protection (pesticides) segments that include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, bioherbicides, bioinsecticides and biofungicides

Key Questions this Study will Answer

What is the future of crop protection market, and what are the key challenges that are likely to impact it in future?
How do macroeconomic factors in the region that determine the necessity for product innovations, and how do they impact the final consumer?
What are the most important product innovations across different types of pesticides that will record highest growth, and how are these likely to change in future?

• Crop protection chemicals are divided into two broad categories based on their origin and nature as:

o Synthetic pesticides
o Biopesticides

• Synthetic pesticides are chemicals used to control or kill plant pests such as weeds, insects, or fungi and protect the crops.

• Synthetic pesticides are further classified based on the type of pests they target, for instance herbicides are used to control unwanted herbs in the field where the crop of interest is planted; similarly insecticides and fungicides target insect and fungal pests that damage the crop respectively.

• Biopesticides utilize animals, plants, and microbes (bacteria and viruses) to prevent, eliminate, or control agricultural pests.

• Bioherbicides, bioinsecticides, and biofungicides are classified based on the type of pest they target.
