Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a next generation air traffic control (ATC) system, permitting air to air communication or air traffic coordination using a dedicated datalink to determine the aircraft’s exact position in space. ADS-B is a technological solution that is being utilized in an effort to improve the efficiency and capacity of the National Airspace System (NAS). Unlike the conventional radar, ADS-B works at low altitudes as well as on the ground, and thus, can be used to monitor traffic on airport taxiways and runways.
