Even though more than 70% of our planet's surface is covered with water, water scarcity, i.e., lack of access to clean drinking water, is widespread and remains on the rise: it is found in both growing and developed economies. Further, driven by declining freshwater resources and increasing water demand around the world, water utilities have begun ...

With the growing human population, increasing urbanization, and industrialization, the requirement of fresh water for human consumption as well as for industrial usage has been on the rise. Increase in freshwater demand and the ongoing decrease in freshwater resources is expected to widen the freshwater supply-demand gap. Governments and industry ...

Africa has the largest number of water-scarce countries than any other continent in the world, and the majority of the continent relies on rainfall and surface water for their water supply. Of the 54 countries in Africa, 39 have a coastline, making desalination a logical solution. Insufficient infrastructure is a major reason why water is a challen...

Increasing water scarcity and the non-potable nature of many available water resources have resulted in the quest for simpler and effective water purification solutions. Capacitive deionization (CDI) has been identified as a technology with much promise in efficient onsite treatment of water/wastewater that enables tunable removal of total dissolve...
