The 2020s have been dubbed the decade of energy storage, and 2024 confirmed this to be true. Battery energy storage CAPEX surged to $65.6 billion, up from $48.9 billion in 2023. This was achieved despite a reduction in battery pack costs in 2024 that meant project costs declined by around 10% across all geographies. The ongoing clean energy transit...

•The demand for data storage technologies stems from the need to efficiently and quickly process large data sets in critical applications such as Big Data, AI, and IoT. Over the years, data storage technologies have evolved on the back of advancements in the components used in storage devices and technologies. •The key factors driving the growth ...

Thermal energy storage (TES) is a system to store thermal energy. TES can be differentiated into three different categories, namely sensible, latent and thermochemical. The main drivers that propel development of TES system are advancements in material sciences and the emergence of smart thermal grid. Although some of the TES system is already mat...

Global battery energy storage (BES) deployment grew 51.8% in 2022 from 2021, with 17.54 GW/38.2 GWh commissioned. 2022 was a historic turning point in the clean energy transition. Despite constraints in the supply of critical minerals and materials, shipping, and sitting and permitting processes, BES is a burgeoning technology poised for accele...

The residential battery storage market will continue its recent trajectory of strong growth, with global revenues increasing from $3.05 billion in 2021 to reach $8.11 billion in 2030. High electricity prices, declines in feed-in tariffs and net metering payments, and continued declines in lithium-ion battery prices and associated components are the...

This study analyzes breakthrough advancements in mechanical energy storage (MES) technologies. With the decreasing cost of renewable energy, the contribution of clean energy systems to the global electricity mix has significantly increased, reaching around 30% in 2022. This, in turn, has led to an exponential surge in the demand for energy storage ...

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) have rapidly become the fastest-growing clean energy technology driven by the growth of wind and solar and the need for grid flexibility. While commercial and industrial (C&I) BESS installations have traditionally lagged behind grid-scale and residential deployments, the sector holds considerable opportunit...

The battery energy storage system (BESS) is a super-high growth market. The ongoing clean energy transition driving intermittent wind and solar capacity and the retirement of fossil-fuel-based generation plants requires critical services to balance the electricity system. BESSs have emerged as the most effective solution for this purpose. Estimated...

Flexible generation capacity and storage are key elements of the energy transition and the continued expansion of intermittent renewable energy (RE) because they offer unparalleled flexibility to optimally deliver energy and ancillary services. Frost & Sullivan forecasts global grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) to experience rapid ex...
