Prolonged geopolitical uncertainty, elevated energy costs, and persistent supply chain and trade disruptions define global economic conditions in Q3 2026. The US-Iran conflict has materially weakened the global growth trajectory, shaving 0.6 percentage points from the 2026 outlook (vs 3.5% in 2025) and slowing global GDP growth to 2.5% in Q3 2026, the weakest pace since Q4 2022.
Restricted energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, freight rates 25%–40% above pre-crisis levels, and shipping delays of 10–14 days will sustain inflation and business-cost pressures. Global growth is expected to recover gradually to 2.7% in Q4 2026 and 3.0% in Q1 2027, although normalization will depend on easing maritime disruptions and a durable US-Iran agreement.
Growth performance will remain increasingly divergent across regions:
• North America’s growth will remain at 2.1% in 2026, similar to 2025. AI investment boom will help the US register a moderate uptick in growth in 2026, while the Canadian economy will slow in 2026.
• Western Europe faces renewed stagflationary pressure, with regional growth slowing to approximately 0.6% in Q3 2026 before stabilizing near 1.0% in Q1 2027. Spain, Portugal and selected Northern European economies provide pockets of resilience, while high energy costs weigh on major industrial economies.
• The Middle East experiences the sharpest downturn, with regional GDP forecast to contract by 1.7% in 2026 and Saudi Arabia and the UAE entering recession across Q2–Q3 2026. Fiscal buffers, alternative export infrastructure, and gradual Strait of Hormuz normalization should support a strong rebound from Q4 2026.
• Asia remains a global growth hotspot despite energy and logistics pressures, with regional expansion moderating to 3.7% in Q3 and 3.9% in Q4 2026. AI-related demand and high-tech exports support resilience across South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, while India’s domestic demand, services exports, and trade diversification underpin one of the world’s strongest growth performances.
